The last couple of Rugby World Cups have been very frustrating from this spectators view point. The incumbent broadcaster in Australia chose not to show too any of the developing nations matches. A source of great frustration.

Hopefully with this announcement the new broadcasters will do the right thing and between them cover every match.

Regional championships

Is the next step for the iRB to intropduce mandatory participation in regional championships to secure qualification to the RWC?

Hell yes it should be.

No matter how many points New Zealand would beat Niue by, it is irrelevant they should be in the same competition at the same time trying to make the RWC.

No need to reply about safety and scorelines. Who cares, it is the world cup everyone starts out equal.

Wales v Lithuania, would love to see it.

2011 RWC gets started

April 11, 2008 · 1 Comment

So whilst South Africa continue to back in their RWC triumph, some of the less illustrious nations are about to begin their journey to the holy grail of rugby, The World Cup.

Whilst we all know that these countries are highly unlikely to reach the finals in New Zealand, these matches reflect on the responsibility that the iRB has in developing our beloved game.

The six-day knock-out qualifying Tournament will feature Barbados, Bahamas, Bermuda, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago and the Cayman Islands, with the final played on April 26. The winner will progress to meet the winner of the South America Division B Championship involving Colombia or Venezuela, Paraguay, Brazil and Peru.

It is hard to pick a winner from the 8 teams taking part, Mexico might suprise a few people and the Cayman Islands too. Both of these sides are reasonably active and the Mexicans have a solid club competition to aid their National team.

No matter what else happens the player who kicks off the first match between Cayman Islands and Trinidad & Tobago will have the honour saying the he got the 2011 tournament underway. Best of luck to one and all on their road to New Zealand 2011.

The RWC 2011 Caribbean Championship follows the following format:

April 20

Cayman Islands v Trinidad & Tobago (1030)
Guyana v Jamaica (1230)
Bahamas v Bermuda (1430)
Barbados v Mexico (1630)
April 23

Semi-finals (1430 & 1630)

April 26

Final (1630)
